Jayci Simon was a born athlete. From the age of four, she started to play and excel in a variety of sports. However, her competitive progress was curtailed by her short stature. Jayci has a rare form of dwarfism. When she joined the Little People of America organization at age ten, she was thrilled to learn out about “para”-sports. It was there that she was introduced to Para- Badminton. Her passion, hard work and determination over the next few years elevated her to number one para-badminton woman player in the US by the age of 16. Earning medal after medal at over a dozen international competitions in 2022 and ’23, Jayci was awarded a spot on Team USA. Her dream to compete in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris had come true. After only 8 years of playing and competing in badminton, she earned the first medal in badminton in Olympic and Paralympic history. After triumphing over countless challenges, Jayci glistened with tears of joy as she stood on the podium and was awarded a silver medal at her first Paralympic Games, Paris 2024.
Jayci, now 19, is passionate about sports, health, teaching, and being an ambassador for both dwarfism and sports development. This has led her to becoming a soccer coach and the founder of a summer soccer club for kids. In addition, she is a motivational and inspirational speaker for dwarfism, badminton, sports, healthy lifestyle, and philosophy. Jayci lives with her mom and two younger sisters in St John, Michigan and is currently working her way towards a degree in sports science.
